February 28th, 2019: First international conference for the ESRs

Our students have headed to Vienna for their first international dissemination opportunity, the Marie Curie Alumni Association conference, where they presented a joint poster. Here is their impression of this experience:

"Our group, SAMCAPS, had the opportunity to attend this year’s Marie Curie Alumni Association General Assembly and Annual Conference in the beautiful city of Vienna, Austria. The event took place at the prestigious University of Vienna for 2 days, on February 24th and 25th. During these days, we had the chance to meet other Marie Curie fellows, network with international researchers and innovators and attend several keynotes related to the continuously evolving research environment. MSCA is not a common scientific conference that only addresses results, but it also considers other important aspects of a scientist's life, like training sessions on various topics such as career paths for researchers, science diplomacy, entrepreneurship, how to brand yourself and equality and diversity for leadership in the research environment.

All the sessions we attended to were extremely interesting, educational and inspiring for us as new researchers. They made us realize that there are plenty of jobs and opportunities in front of us and thus we should not be afraid of “big jumps” in our career!

We also presented our very first poster describing the goals and key points of our project SAMCAPS. It was pretty useful to get some feedback and insights from other fellows and to see other posters as well. Of course, the freezing cold of Vienna didn’t stop us from exploring this amazing city after the conference!

In summary, it was a great experience for us as MSCA researchers and a unique opportunity to learn and start building our network. We would really recommend MSCA conference, and we look forward to attending the next year’s one in Zagreb, Croatia!"
