CSGI (CONSORZIO INTERUNIVERSITARIO PER LO SVILUPPO DEI SISTEMI A GRANDE INTERFASE) - Italy

CSGI is an academic consortium with its headquarters in Florence, Italy, and several units spread across the Italian territory. Its scientific activity is devoted to basic research and to the development of high-tech new processes, and is supporting the activities of the small and medium size business industrial companies, that cannot afford the financial costs of an independent research activity. CSGI has been officially ranked as the #1 Consortium in Italy (VQR – ANVUR). The main topics of CSGI research activity are: development of processes for the formulation of dispersions in fluids, emulsions and inverted emulsions (paints, adhesives, sealing materials, detergents, etc.). Research is conducted in the area nanostructured and ultrafine materials; structure and dynamics of supramolecular assemblies (monolayers, micelles, liposomes, microemulsions, Langmuir-Blodgett films, host-guest systems); study of surface properties of systems for advanced mechanical engineering and micro-devices applications, through numerical and analytical modelling, advanced characterization methods, technological, mechanical, tribological and chemical tests. Development of advanced multi-scale methodology related with morphological, micro-structural and micro-analytical characterization of materials through optical, ionic, electronic and contact probes. Development of techniques for application of the nano-microstructure-process-propriety-performance correlations to the control and the optimization of materials processing especially for the development of anti-wear and corrosion resistant coatings. Development of integrated methodologies for nano and micro-structural characterization of materials and analysis of the nanostructure-microstructure-process-propriety-performance correlations, aimed to the prediction of the materials behaviour in real-use conditions.
